We proudly announce the successful completion of the international training course for
youth in the context of the Erasmus+ KA220 project: “YOUng Changemakers for
Circular Local Economy” which encourages social entrepreneurship in the field of the
circular economy. The training was held in Athens, on July 1- 5, 2024 and was
organized by the Entrepreneurship and Social Economy Group (EKO) in collaboration
with the Erasmus partners: Avrupa Entergrasyon Derneği EIG (Türkiye), Espacio
Geranios EG (Spain), Youth Proaktiv YPA (Belgium) and Institute for Research in
Circular Economy and Environment Ernest Lupan” (IRCEM) (Romania). A total of 25
participants from Greece, Spain, Türkiye, Belgium, and Romania attended the training
course.
The training covered a variety of activities in the field of social entrepreneurship and
circular economy. Participants were introduced to the fundamental differences between
the circular and linear economies and to the significance of sustainable urban planning
in different cities. The trainees participated in two days interactive workshops on design
thinking, emphasizing its significance in the realm of social entrepreneurship.
Participants also delved into the significance and practical applications of social
entrepreneurship, distinguishing it from traditional entrepreneurship. The program
addressed mental health topics, emphasizing the importance of empathy and motivation
in the process of designing one’s business.
Moreover, the participants visited three companies in Athens: “Kyklo slow living & zero
Waste”, “Socrates Dog Shelter”, and “Threads of Hope Hellas” which are active in
circular economy and/or social entrepreneurship. The participants gained insights into
the operational mechanisms of these companies and into ways of achieving economic
sustainability.
The training not only provided knowledge and skills, but also nurtured a feeling of
togetherness and shared objectives among the participants and constituted an inspiring
and empowering journey, motivating participants to pursue their journey in a creative
and more sustainable world. All in all, the training was a great success, with all
participants leaving with fresh insights, skills and inspiration to make a positive impact in
their communities. The bonds created during the training will certainly result in future
collaborations and endeavors that will continue to promote sustainability and social
entrepreneurship.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved—participants, organizers, and
trainers—who made this training a great experience.
